Not Newman or Redford

The real Butch Cassidy was born in Beaver, UT in 1866. No wonder he was so ornery

Dinner

We ate at the Timberline. Chicken fried steak, pot roast, and a sarsaparilla! No table danced tonight!!!

Done for the day.

We have landed in Beaver UT for the night. We can finish up with 3 or 4 hrs tomorrow. Time for dinner!

Utah a puddy cat

Color? Color?? Did you say color? Looks all brown to me.

Snack

When a potty break calls can a Frosty be far behind?

Lunch on Sunday

We have stopped for gas, freshening up, and lunch in Grand Junction, CO.
Lunch today is at the Village Inn. Say hello to some of our dining companions....

AAGGHHH!!!!

In the Rockies

Karen is doing a great job driving us though the mountaintop. Some snow and some ice and this Honda 4 banger has been whining but we are almost to Vail.

Scrape me

My SISTER threw away her scraper!! It does get cold in Las Vegas doesn't it? Anyhow, in Denver this morning I had to use my hotel key card to scrape!

Dinner

Well.... That was not as bad as it might sound. We were going to walk to a British themed pub called Bull and Bush. It was a longer walk than we thought and traffic was heavy. So we turned back and went to a Chili's very close to the hotel. The food was just fine and they had Fat Tire beer on draft. Karen had half of a Margarita and almost jumped on the table. Now we are back in our rooms. (watching Cops!!!!)

Landing for the night

We have arrived in Denver. Traffic in town was pretty crazy!! We are staying at a Hampton Inn in the Cherry Creek area. It's a pretty cool spot. Pretty soon we will head out for dinner.

Sterling CO

Eating lunch at the J 'n L Cafe in Sterling. BLT for me and, oh oh, bean soup for Karen.

Colorado!!

Back in time

Just passes a sign in Nebraska that says we are entering Mountain Time Zone! Now it's another hour until lunch.

One Grand

Just turned 1000 miles I the wilds of Nebraska. It is cold. A little wet and WINDY!!! I just got gas and a hunter said it wasn't worth the venison to be out. Now THAT'S cold!!!

Breakfast

Stopping for coffee and breakfast on Gretna Nebraska. We were surprised how big and fancy Omaha is.

Away we go

Off on day 2. Denver in our sights.

Motel 6

We stopped at a Motel 6 in Avoca IA. It's clean but sort of old. Although I do find my bedspread to be hip in a reto Roy Rogers meets Jack Kerouac sort of way.
Dinner was at the Embers Grill. All of the oldsters seemed to have oxygen tanks with them. I had catfish. It was the WHOLE fish. Like they battered a fish and deep fried it!! Karen had walleye that was pretty normal. They do not take credit at the Embers so bring cash.

Done for the day!!

Drove lots farther than we planned. We are 760 miles into the trip!! The Iowa sky was beautiful tonight. Getting dinner now!!

Old Muddy

We just went over the Mississippi River! We have gone 505 miles! It's a sunny, bright day in Iowa! And Kurt has eaten 27 Twizzlers! Yahoo!!

Gas in Marseilles, IL

405 miles so far!
This is Karen typing! Kurt took over driving...it was a tight squeeze, but he made it!! Thanks Brother!

Lunch

We ate at a Hardee's in an Indiana Thruway Plaza. Indiana is well known for being the home of the SaltaPeppa tribe. Represented by this artifact.

Who knew

Just passed the RV Hall of Fame in Elkhart, Indiana. Hold me back!!

One Down

Indiana at 9:45

Gassed up

Stopped just at rest area near exit 70 for gas. Karen got coffee...I peed!!
Gas was 3.37.

Go west old woman

And we are off! 7:05am. 6672 miles on this 2010 Honda CRV. We look like hoarders because this baby is packed to the hilt.

Packed Up

I'm all packed up and ready to roll. I am only taking one bag so I don't have to check luggage when I fly home on Tuesday!!
Think I have enough??

11/17/11

11/17/11

This is my sister, Karen.  She is moving to Las Vegas and asked me to make the drive from Northeastern Ohio to Nevada with her...so...here we go!!

We are leaving the morning of Friday, November 18, 2011.  We have no set schedule and no reservations.  I am guessing it will take at least 3 days to make the drive but 4 days is certainly not out of the question.

Karen (above right) is a nurse...as is my other sister, Kathy (above left)  She has worked for a Catholic hospital system in the Warren/Youngstown Ohio area for a number of years.  She has agreed to take a position with a Catholic hospital system in Las Vegas.  Her daughter Kelly lives there with her husband and kids so it's not as if Karen is moving to an unknown and unfriendly place.

This will be the first long car trip we have taken together since I was 13 or so but this time Mom and Dad won't be in the front seat smoking Tarringtons.
